lyrics
Never had silk, never had wings
Never could stay if the living was free
Call me a ride, pour me drink
What do you mean?
Said I would work, said I would pull
Said I would pick til the barrel was full
But it wasn’t much fun, so what if I’m lean
I tried to stay clean
Some people don’t mind
Well that’s a good way to be
Everyone laughed, they were on fire
Would you believe it began in the dryer
Now it’s too small and I know that you’ve seen
Don’t be mean to me
Never had silk, never had wings
Or the wonderful ways of wordless things
Call me a ride, pour me a drink
What do you mean?
Some people don’t mind
I’m afraid that I do

This is a very strong sophomore record - No sophomore slump here. This shows Gudasz' growth as a songwriter. She's branching out in different directions musically with some very cool production work. Some of the songs are even better than those from Oleander, her debut LP. While some of those sounds/textures are still present here, this record has some more challenging (and rewarding) results. For fans of Leonard Cohen, Sharon Van Etten, Aimee Mann and Joni Mitchell. travm0

Working with her friend and co-producer Nick Sanborn (of Sylvan Esso), Wasner crafts a unique, atmospheric sound, combining electro-pop synths, guitars, and wind instruments, while tastefully altering and layering her own resonant vocals. jmand300
